Science Week 2024
This year, the theme for British Science Week was ‘time’, so at St. Augustine’s we decided to explore this concept in as many ways as possible! We all took a trip to The Deer Park and explored life at the farm at this time of year. Spring is an incredibly important point in the year for farmers, with lots of things going on and new life being brought into the world. We had the opportunity to look at some new calves and explore how the dairy cows are cared for. Back at school, we tried lots of different time investigations and experiments:
- making rainbows using coloured water and kitchen-roll to explore capillary action,
- making and testing pendulums using string, weights and a stopwatch (we found we could change the frequency of the swing by changing the length of our string!)
- seeing how many actions we could perform in a minute,
- creating nests for birds and creatures that would be building them at this time of year.
We had such a wonderful week, exploring time in more detail and in different ways!
