Connectedness of Maths Across the Curriculum
At St Augustine’s, Maths is taught on a daily basis, whether this is through a maths lesson, morning consolidation activities or in another subject area. It is incorporated into a range of other lessons regularly, allowing children the opportunity to practise the variety of knowledge and skills they have learnt over multiple units. Children seeing that their skills are transferrable and used in everyday life helps them understand the importance of maths. For example:
- Science – graphs, measurement, patterns
- History – dates, ordering numbers
- Design & Technology – weight, position, time
- Art – symmetry, shapes
- Literacy – reading and writing
Maths is also connected to a variety of events that are hosted at school throughout the year. These days and weeks help the children to use maths in real-life. They get to see the cross-curricular links to other subjects they enjoy and learn about. For example:
- World Maths Day
- TT Rockstars Day
- NSPCC Number Day
- STEAM workshops
- Enterprise week
- Careers talks
