PE has a high profile at our school. Our pupils have two hours curriculum PE each week and as they come dressed in PE kit and tracksuits on those days, no time is wasted getting changed and no kit is ever forgotten or gets lost!

We have used our Sports Premium money carefully over the years to ensure sustainability. Staff completed an audit a few years ago and we have employed specialist coaches to team teach in order to upskill our teachers and TA in areas they felt they needed support. This has resulted in highly skilled staff who teach PE to a very high standard.

Physical activity is closely linked to mental health and wellbeing and we believe passionately in promoting good mental and physical health. We were one of the first schools in Staffordshire to be recognised and win an award for providing 5 hours of physical activity per week. This has been increased over the years and our children now have over an hour of physical activity per day. This comprises of; Active lunchtimes run by our Young Leaders, Go Noodle, Brain Gym and Calm Brain exercises, Messy Play, PE lessons, Take Ten and Take Ten En Francais, gardening, active Maths and Science activities and Drama and Performing Arts lessons which take place once a week for each class.

We attend competitions that are run by our local School Games Organiser and also across our three schools. We have a strong link with Denstone Preparatory School and attend an annual Football tournament there and also this year (2020) we are attending a ‘day of Sport’ held at Smallwood Manor, where the children in KS2 will be playing Football, Rugby, Cricket and Hockey. For a small school we do incredibly well at these tournaments and we are so proud of how our pupils support and champion one another!

Each year we hold a whole school sports day which is incredibly competitive! It is a chance for pupils to shine on the sports field in races that include; egg and spoon, sack, skipping, bouncy hopper and the relay. The afternoon is finished off with a Mums and Dads race which is the most competitive race of the day! Wowzers…..!

We hold a number of sporting after school clubs over the year which include; Dance Club with Spotlight Academy on a Monday 3.15-4.15. Soccerstars UK run football, multi skills, dodge ball and a range of others on a Friday evening 3.15-4.15 and our before and after school club run other physical activity clubs such as den building and gardening.

Take a look at us in our PE lessons and at some of our competitions below:
