In today’s lesson, we learnt about Rosa Parks. We watched a video where it showed us how Rosa stood up for the rights of black people because they were treated unfairly. We were outraged! We couldn’t believe that many years ago, people were treated differently based on the colour of their skin. We would not treat someone else unfairly because they did not look or act like us.
After watching the video, we spoke about how we had explored Rosa Parks and her influence on the world in worship. Using both our prior and new knowledge of Rosa and her actions, we acted out the important bus scene where the start of something life-changing began.
During this activity, we paused throughout to get the thoughts and feelings of a range of characters. This helped us to empathise with Rosa and understand how herself and others were feeling during this time. Acting it out helped us understand the significant event even more!
To conclude, we discussed how the lives of everyone has changed for the better just from one person standing up for change. Our world would be a completely different place now if it wasn’t for the brave and passionate efforts of others.
