Autumn 1
We are so excited to be starting a new school year! This term we started a new phonics scheme (Little Wandle) and have been very busy working hard to learn new sounds. We have had lots of opportunities to settle into our new class and play with our new friends. Our first topic of the year, ‘Who am I?’ began reading the book ‘The Colour Monster’ where we discussed different feelings. We also learned about body parts, our family, healthy eating, germs and where we live.
In mathematics, we have been sorting, matching and comparing by size, shape and colour. We also had lots of fun making repeating patterns.
Don’t miss our Picasso inspired portraits we created using college and playdough!
Autumn 2
What a busy half term it has been! In Class 1, we have been learning all about dinosaurs through the topic ‘What Happened Before I was Born?’
We began exploring the job of a palaeontologist, writing a list of the equipment needed. We had lots of fun investigating fossils and which dinosaurs were herbivores or carnivores-we even made dinosaur poo! Mrs Gilmour couldn’t believe her eyes when we had a surprise letter from a dinosaur after reading the story ‘Dear Dinosaur’ so we decided to write our own letters back the dinosaur!
We also received a letter from Santa, who asked us to keep an eye on his cheeky, little elf. Santa also wanted our Christmas lists so we wrote our own letters to Santa before meeting him on our exciting day out to the National Adventure Farm.
To celebrate Christmas, we have been learning about the Nativity We took part in a whole school Christmas tableau where we dressed as the special people from the story. In Class 1, we also celebrated Bonfire night and remembered the soldier who dies in the war by creating some beautiful poppy art.
