We take part in World Book Day every year and we ask everyone in school (children and adults alike!) to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters. Each child takes home a book voucher, which entitles them to £1 off a brand new book, a sticker to show they were involved in the world’s biggest celebration of books! It is always a fantastic day to show our love for books and for reading by celebrating all types of text and their authors: poetry, non-fiction, adventure tales, spooky tales, nursery rhymes, traditional tales, comics, mystery, comedy, the classics and everything in between!
World Book Day 2023
Take a look at all of our wonderful costumes for World Book Day 2023! The children and staff all went to so much effort dressing up as their favourite characters and it made for a fantastic celebration of the amazing world of books. Next week, we have special visitors coming into St. Augustine’s – West End In Schools. We are very excited to welcome them and continue the World Book Day celebrations by exploring stories through performance and drama!
World Book Day 2022
This year, we decided that we wanted to explore a book together as a school on World Bok Day. So, when we arrived at school this morning, we were amazed to find a curious, red door in front of Mrs. Walker’s office! There was also a package ready to be opened. To our surprise, there was an amazing book to explore and delve into – Journey by Aaron Becker. Together, we thought about what clues we could see on the front cover and looked at the first few pages. All of the children were fixated as there were no words… only pictures to create your own narrative to! Back in class, the children wrote what they thought could be behind the door, explored the rest of the story and designed their own magic doors to allow their imaginations run wild! It was a very special day, topped off with the children’s fantastic costumes to celebrate the love and joy of reading.
In 2020-21 due to some children being at home for World Book Day, our teachers have recorded some videos to share of their favourite stories!
